The Unlikely Union: A Storytelling Symphony of America

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, THE UNLIKELY UNION tells the dramatic story of America’s first century.
It begins when an unlikely union of 13 distinct, disparate, and unattached British colonies set aside their differences to break from Great Britain and form a republic that would become the model for Western democracy. In less than a century, the durability of that union and commitment to its founding ideals are put to the ultimate test in the crucible of civil war.
The main character of THE UNLIKELY UNION is not a person, but an idea: the audacious vision of a union of states and a government by and for the people—an idea that almost wasn’t, that has nearly died a thousand deaths, yet endures 250 years later.
Hosted by Professor Greg Jackson, creator of the top-ten history podcast History That Doesn’t Suck!, and filmed live with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Daniel Meyer, this cinematic event blends the power of storytelling and music with images and historical letters to tell the story of America's first 100 years.
THE UNLIKELY UNION: A STORYTELLING SYMPHONY OF AMERICA (1×120) is distributed through APT.
